The Why
Our family has been rescuing dogs for more than 35 years. For many years, we usually had two or three dogs at a time, but the heartstrings kept tugging. As dogs we loved crossed the Rainbow Bridge, we continued opening our hearts and working with local rescues and shelters to help other dogs in need.
Over the years, more dogs came into our lives, each with a unique story, personality, and individual needs. Somehow, they came together to form their own little family.
After decades of rescuing dogs, we decided to make our commitment official. Barxmore Acres, Inc. was established in December 2024 as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit FUREVER HOME DOG SANCTUARY, giving our resident dogs a second chance at life and a loving home where they can stay furever.
The Benefits
The greatest benefit of giving a rescued dog a second chance is LIFE. Each of our dogs came to us with their own story, and giving them a safe, loving home has allowed them to leave their past behind and simply enjoy being dogs.
Then there is UNCONDITIONAL LOVE. The bond we share with our dogs is something truly special. They become part of the family, and the love and companionship they give back is immeasurable.
And we can’t forget EXERCISE and LAUGHTER! Caring for our pack certainly keeps us moving, and their individual personalities and daily antics keep us smiling. Life at Barxmore Acres wouldn’t be the same without them.
The Goal
The goal of Barxmore Acres is to provide our permanent resident dogs with a safe, loving home and exceptional lifelong care. Our focus is on their health, happiness, enrichment, and quality of life throughout every stage of their lives. Barxmore Acres is dedicated to the dogs currently in our care and is not accepting additional dogs into the sanctuary.
Our commitment to helping dogs extends beyond our sanctuary. Through our Community Resource Sharing Program, we help support select trusted animal welfare organizations and caregivers in our surrounding community by sharing donated food, toys, supplies, and other resources. We also hope to encourage responsible pet ownership and bring greater awareness to the value of rescue and adoption.
By caring for our permanent residents and sharing resources with trusted community partners, our goal is to make a positive difference in the lives of dogs both inside and outside Barxmore Acres.
OTHERS HELPING DOGS
Diana Swart
Diana Swart is a Barxmore Acres board member and co-owner of Fetch Lost Dog Recovery. For more than nine years, she has helped safely trap and rescue lost and abandoned dogs—working independently, alongside other rescue organizations, and through Fetch Lost Dog Recovery. Today, Diana provides lifelong care for 14 dogs she has helped rescue over the years. Barxmore Acres helps support their care by providing donated food, toys, and other resources when available.

When resources are available, Barxmore Acres supports their work by sharing donated food, toys, supplies, and other essential items to help dogs in need throughout our community.
