PEANUT

Staffordshire Terrier

Birthday: 09/01/2010
Adopted: 11/01/2011

Peanut came to us via our Daughter, Amanda, back in November 2011.  Amanda had gone down to North Carolina to pick up a Staffordshire Terrier Pup from someone on Craig’s List  in November of 2010.  Amanda had moved from a house to an apartment shortly after and discovered that Peanut really needed more room to run. We agreed to welcome Peanut into our  pack when she was just over a year old.

UNO AKA PICKLES

Beagle

Birthday: 03/18/2015
Adopted: 04/19/2020

Uno came to live with us in the Spring of 2020.  We were out blowing leaves in the community when our neighbors asked us if we could help them out.  They were looking for a home for a dog who had been surrendered at the groomers.  We said YES and took him the next day.  It took Uno awhile to get use to being in with a pack of dogs as he came from a one dog family.  He has since melded into the pack.  Jesse, our son, started calling him Pickles for some unknown reason and it stuck!

POPEYE

Jack Russell Terrier

Birthday: 04/06/2021
Adopted: 02/06/2022

We found this cutie through Pawssible Beginnings Rescue via a Facebook post.  The owner didn’t want him due to the pup not liking his cats so he let him out the door.  Somehow the pup’s eye got damaged to the point of it needing to be removed.  The owner was found and wanted the pup euthanized because of the damaged eye. Pawssible Beginnings Rescue scooped up the pup but needed donations for the eye surgery and posted on Facebook.  Our heart strings tugged.  We reached out and told them we would pay for the eye surgery and adopt him.  His name was Popeye!

MADDY

Black Mouth Cur

Birthday: 06/29/2022
Adopted: 07/21/2023

We had seen Maddy (Mama) and Emma (Baby) posted as a pair via a Facebook page called Rescue Me WV at the end of May before our pug died.  Fast forward a month later, the pug died and we decided to try to save another dog from a shelter.  We drove to animal control in another county and asked if they had any younger pups.  They showed us a pup but said that the mother had to go with her.  I recognized them from the Facebook post back in May.   We reached out to Rescue Me WV after we realized they had posted these two dogs.  Rescue Me WV was able to spring both of them the same day and got them spayed the next day.  We picked them up on June 30, 2023 and fostered them for 21 days before we fully adopted them both.     Their story is continued under Emma’s name……

EMMA

Black Mouth Cur/Pitbull Mix

Birthday: 01/29/2023
Adopted: 07/21/2023

Maddy and Emma’s story is a very sad story with a happy ending.  Evidently, during the last week of May in 2023, the owner was arrested.  He left his girlfriend in charge of the dogs while he served his time.  The girlfriend took off with his valuables and left the dogs locked up in the trailer they lived in with no food or water for 5 days.  The landlord wanted to move the trailer and went to start the process.  He heard dogs barking frantically. The police and animal control were called and they were able to get the dogs out.  The owner was contacted and he surrender the dogs to animal control.  Rescue Me WV heard about them and posted about them shortly after and then we adopted them both.

TUCKER

Pitbull/Boxer/Lab

Birthday: 04/06/2024
Adopted: 07/03/2024

Tucker came to us (age 3 months) after we saw him on the Morgan County West Virginia Animal Control Facebook page AGAIN.  We had seen a post about 9 puppies on May 31, 2024.  They were surrendered to Morgan County WV Animal Control.  Fortunately, all found homes at first.  Tucker was returned because the home he was being fostered in also was fostering some dogs that had medical needs and Tucker was doing what puppies do best – annoying the other dogs.  Another post went up asking for a foster to adopt.  We decided to take on Tucker and brought our count in the pack up to 6.  He has fit in very well with the pack and is a hoot.

RIP AKA RIPLEY

Breed Unknown

Birthday: 04/11/2022
Adopted: 11/25/2024

On November 14, 2024,  we got a phone call from Rescue Me WV asking if we could be an emergency foster for a returned dog.  We, of course, couldn’t say no and he was dropped off the next day.  According to Rescue Me WV, they had Rip when he was a puppy.  He had been surrendered along with his mother and siblings.  Homes were found for all the pups and the mother back in 2022.  Fast forward 2 years later, and Rip’s owner decided to surrender the dog for various reasons.  When we got Rip, he was super anxious and also had some healing wounds from a dog fight that had taken place in his previous home.  He was also very skinny, very skittish and was afraid to be left alone.  It was only to be a temporary foster until Rescue Me WV could find a permanent home. It only took a few days before we bonded with him and just couldn’t give him up.  We adopted him on November 25, 2024.

MICKEY

Cocker Spaniel/Shih Tzu

Birthday: 11/09/2014
Adopted: 02/14/2015

Amanda inherited the desire to save pups and decided to rescue Mickey from a pet store.  She does not know Mickey’s story but he was in a small cage and looked very depressed.  He looked so pitiful and sad.  Amanda scooped him up and brought him home.  She had missed the company of Peanut and decided to get a smaller dog that would be more accustomed to an apartment setting.  Mickey was excited to be out of the small cage.  When Amanda moved to a house, Mickey was even happier.  When Barxmore Acres formed, Amanda volunteered to be a part of rescuing dogs. We have included her two rescues, Mickey and Bubba, into our sanctuary of rescued dogs. When her rescues pass on, she will be able to continue saving other dogs through our mission.

BUBBA

Chihuahua

Birthday: 06/06/2023
Adopted: 12/30/2023

Amanda literally rescued Bubba from her next door neighbor.   He was just a baby and the neighbor’s would leave him out on the porch at night.  He was left in the heat and the cold with no water or shelter.  He would sit at the door and cry. When he figured out how to escape the porch, Bubba would end up running into the street. Amanda had to use a translator app because the neighbor didn’t speak English.  She spent several months trying to communicate with them but to no avail.  Amanda would leave water out for Bubba because he seemed thirsty.  The owners finally surrendered Bubba to Amanda after many trips returning Bubba to them from the street.  They were moving and couldn’t take Bubba with them.  He is a very emotional dog and doesn’t like to be alone.  He has bonded with Mickey and loves to play with Mickey’s toys (and his own).  Amanda’s daughter also helps in their care.
