Alec Receveur
President
I’ve always had a love for animals, ever since I was a child. When I married Suzanne, I didn’t realize just how much she loved animals until they started showing up in our home! After 39 years of marriage, our shared love of animals has grown into something bigger than we ever expected.
Over the years, Suzanne and I have rescued and cared for many animals, including 15 dogs, several cats, and even about 40 goldfish along the way. Each one has been part of our family and has helped shape what Barxmore Acres is today.
In December 2024, Suzanne and I decided to make our lifelong commitment to rescued dogs official by establishing Barxmore Acres, Inc. as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit FUREVER HOME DOG SANCTUARY. Today, our focus is providing our permanent resident dogs with a safe, secure, loving home and the lifelong care they deserve.
Although our sanctuary is dedicated to the dogs already in our care and is not accepting additional dogs, our ability to help doesn’t stop at our property. Through Barxmore Acres, we are also able to support other dogs in our community by sharing food, toys, supplies, and other resources with select trusted animal welfare organizations and caregivers when resources are available.

I grew up in a home with dogs and cats, and that love of animals carried with me into adulthood. The first dog Alec and I had together actually showed up on our doorstep the day we moved into our first house. As the years went by, we welcomed other rescued dogs into our family. What started as two or three dogs eventually became three, five, six, and then seven. We kept opening our home, and somehow our hearts just kept getting bigger.
I’ve also always tried to help local rescues and dogs in need, whether by donating dog food, helping with veterinary expenses, or providing other support when I could. But I wanted to make a bigger difference. For years, I dreamed of creating a dog sanctuary, and in December 2024 that dream became Barxmore Acres, Inc., a 501(c)(3) nonprofit FUREVER HOME DOG SANCTUARY.
Our original plans included continuing to welcome additional dogs when we were able. After I was seriously injured while helping an emergency temporary foster dog—not one of our sanctuary residents—we made the decision to focus the sanctuary on providing exceptional lifelong care for the permanent residents already entrusted to us.
That change didn’t lessen my commitment to helping dogs; it expanded the ways we help. Today, Barxmore Acres provides our permanent residents with lifelong love, care, enrichment, safety, and security while also helping dogs beyond our sanctuary through community outreach and resource sharing.
When resources are available, we share donated food, toys, supplies, and other resources with select trusted animal welfare organizations and caregivers in our community.
What began with opening our home to rescued dogs has grown into a lifelong commitment to our residents and a way to make a difference for many other dogs in our community.

Amanda Green
Director-at-Large
I grew up in a home with a lot of animals, so loving them came pretty naturally. Over the years, our family even had bearded dragons and rescued tadpoles from a puddle. I love cats, dogs, and, of course, trash pandas.
I was blessed with my parents’ love for animals and grew up watching them open their home and hearts to rescued dogs. Eventually, I decided to join in and rescued two dogs of my own that needed some love. I’ve also rescued three cats (one simply showed up!) and two ferrets, who have since passed.
When my parents created Barxmore Acres, they asked me to join the organization as Volunteer Services Director. After serving in that position for a year, my role expanded and I became a Director-at-Large. In this role, I help wherever I’m needed and serve as an ambassador for Barxmore Acres and its mission.
Growing up surrounded by rescued animals helped shape my own love for them, and I’m proud to be part of what Barxmore Acres has become.
Now, if only we could include trash pandas on the list of rescues!

Diana Swart
Outreach/Education Director
I grew up with a dog and later obtained a kitten. The kitten was found in a barn alone and very, very small. Later, I would eventually have more dogs and kitties, including three separate kittens in 2025. I currently have a total of 14 dogs that I trapped and then rescued when they had no place to go.
I have been tracking and trapping for over nine years now. I trapped Chewbacca, aka Chewie, a Yorkie mix, in 2017. Chewie has seizures, which he is medicated for, but is such a delight, and no one ever claimed him. I have several rescues, and I have a real knack for locating lost dogs and reuniting them with their owners. I enjoy this because it helps the community and the lost pups.
Jessica Lynn and I started Fetch Lost Dog Recovery in 2025 and have been very successful helping the surrounding communities in West Virginia, Maryland, and Pennsylvania find their lost pets.
I look forward to being the Outreach and Education Director for Barxmore Acres and using my experience to help educate others, support our community, and further Barxmore Acres’ mission of helping dogs both inside and outside the sanctuary.

Jesse Receveur
Volunteer
Jesse is a man of few words; however, he loves spending time with the dogs.
He has always been willing to help with walking, feeding, playing with, and caring for the dogs and has become an integral part of their daily lives. The dogs have bonded with Jesse and often seek him out when they’re ready to play—or when they know he might have something good to eat!
Barxmore Acres grew from our family’s lifelong love of animals, so it was important to us that our kids be part of what we created. Jesse continues to be an important part of the Barxmore Acres family and the lifelong care we provide to our permanent resident dogs.
